KANNAPOLIS, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — Dale Earnhardt Boulevard was a literal ghost town Wednesday night, expect for a few brave souls who decided to make the trek along the snow and ice covered road.
Those who braved the snow and ice had no where to go as nearly every business along the normally busy stretch of road was closed.
Earlier in the day a large group decided sledding was the best way to pass the time at nearby Village Park. As the sun went down, sledding quickly came to an end as roads became ice covered in a matter of minutes.
“There was a car struggling on that ice that was forming from the freezing wind,” Charles Yates, who happened to be braving the cold, told FOX 46 Charlotte.
An old fashion southern snow storm made memories, even for those calling Kannapolis home for years.
“I am 42 now and it hasn’t been as good as this. I think we got five inches maybe, so I would say this is the best we have had in a while.”
The sledding hill at Village Park may be busy again Thursday as Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools are closed for the day.
