A woman who was struck by a SUV in north Charlotte Tuesday night has died from her injuries while in the hospital, police said.

The incident happened at 9:06 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 in the 1300 block of W Sugar Creek Rd. near Cook Out. Medic transported the person to CMC-Main with serious injuries. At 11:11 p.m., the woman, identified as Francisca Mia Rosada, 26, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation determined Hal Jerome Stephens, 40, was operating a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban traveling south in the right lane of W. Sugar Creek Road towards I-85. Police said Rosada was standing in the right lane when she was hit.

Police said Rosada was standing mid-block and not near any crosswalk. Speed is not a contributing factor in this crash. Detectives are investigating to determine if Rosada was impaired. This crash remains under investigation.
