CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) — A woman is dead after being hit by a car Friday night in east Charlotte, according to police.
Officers were called about 8:18 p.m. to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at The Plaza near Weldon Avenue and arrived to find a woman lying in the roadway.
The woman, identified as Brenda Robinson, 53, was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with life-threatening injuries. Robinson later died as a result of her injuries on Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to CMPD, a Chrysler 300, was traveling on The Plaza towards Weldon Avenue as Robinson was walking across the plaza with assistance from a walker when she got stuck in the roadway. Police said Robinson was not in a crosswalk, the roadway was dark and that she was wearing dark clothing. They said the driver never saw the pedestrian.
Speed and alcohol have been ruled out as factors in the crash.
CMPD is handling the investigation.
