Union County school bus driver accused of social media threats

UNION COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A Union County School bus driver has been arrested after authorities say she posted social media threats.

Lashauna Hooker Beachum, 32, of Charlotte, is a bus driver for the Porter Ridge Schools cluster. She was charged with two felony counts of making false reports concerning mass violence on educational property, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

The message targeted Porter Ridge Middle School and mentioned several members of the school staff by name as well as ‘immigrants’ living in Suburban Estates. The initial post appeared on a local Facebook page, What’s Up Indian Trail, around 2 a.m. Friday, but disappeared before being posted a second time a few hours later.

Several extra deputies were on patrol at Porter Ridge campuses Friday because of the threat. Sheriff Eddie Cathey said “The safety of our kids and schools is one of our highest priorities. Any comment, rumor or social media post mentioning violence on school property is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

Booker’s bond was set at $20,000 and she has been released from jail. Her first court appearance is set for April 3.
