Two men accused of assaulting off-duty officer, customer inside Wendy’s parking lot


CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — Police are searching for two men accused of assaulting an off-duty police officer and a Wendy’s customer in the store parking lot Easter Sunday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklemburg police, officers were called about 3 p.m. to a report of an assault in the parking lot of Wendy’s, located at 7920 Cambridge Commons Drive.

The man’s wife says she and her husband had stopped for lunch when her husband was attacked. Police say a white Lexus, occupied by two male suspects, was speeding through the parking lot and almost hit them. When the woman’s husband attempted to confront the suspects, police say he was struck by both suspects several times, including being kicked in the head after he was knocked to the ground. 

The victim says she managed to snap a picture of one of the suspects and says an eyewitness sent her the picture of the suspects’ vehicle. 

An off-duty Sergeant with the Stallings Police Department attempted to intervene and was also assaulted and knocked unconscious by the suspects, according to CMPD. The suspects then took off.

The officer’s family transported him to the hospital where he was was treated and released.

This case is still under investigation, no arrests have been made.  Anyone who witnessed this assault or who has information about this case is asked to call Crimestoppers.
