Two in custody in connection to string of church robberies in Union County

UNION COUNTY, NC — Two people wanted in connection with a crime spree at seven separate churches in Union County last week were taken into custody, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Justin Ray Patterson, 28 of Concord, NC and Amanda Nicole Hickey, 23, also from Concord, NC face countless charges associated with a string of property crimes at churches located in several communities.

The two were captured in Cabarrus County.

Two suspects wanted in connection with last week’s crime spree at seven separate Union County churches have been captured in Cabarrus County.

Union County Sheriff’s detectives investigated these matters along with detectives from the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office, Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and CMPD.  Arrest warrants were issued in Union County against the two for seven counts of Breaking and Entering a Place of Worship and two counts of Larceny after Breaking and Entering.  The warrants are in the process of being served, authorities said.

Sheriff Eddie Cathey stated that he is relieved that the pair is in custody. 

“It takes a special kind of criminal to target a church as a place to steal.  A church should be off limits,” said Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey.
