CORNELIUS, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A tractor-trailer caught fire and crashed on Interstate 77 causing major traffic delays Wednesday morning in Cornelius.
The incident happened about 4:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes near exit 28, just passed the construction zone. Firefighter on scene said the semi caught fire, but that there were no injuries reported.
Crews were able to get the fire under control and clean up was underway to contain a diesel fuel leak from the rig.

Officials said they hoped to have the one southbound lane open by 7:30 a.m.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
