PINEVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — Two people have been arrested after they targeted an unlocked vehicle in Charlotte and stole multiple items including a checkbook, police said.
The robbery occurred sometime during the night before Tuesday, Oct. 24 at a residence located in Charlotte.
The victim was contacted by employees of the State Employees Credit Union located in Pineville and was told that someone was attempting to cash a check drawn from her account.
She informed the bank that the person did not have permission to do so and that this was a case of fraud. The woman then went out to her car and realized that it had been broken into at some point during the night.
The victim found that her checkbook, among other belongings, had been stolen. Her car had been left unlocked while it was parked in the driveway of her residence, police said.
SECU employees notified Pineville police who immediately responded and were able to take two suspects into custody. They were both found to be in possession of items belonging to the victim.
Christian North has been charged with larceny from auto, misdemeanor larceny, possession of stolen property and possession of schedule IV narcotics. Kaitlyn Austin was charged with possession of stolen property and uttering forged instruments.
During the investigation it was also determined that Austin had been assaulted by North on October 22. He has been charged with assault inflicting serious injury for that incident.
