Teen cyclist struck, killed in NE Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A cyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle in northeast Charlotte early Saturday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say they responded to the crash around 1:09 a.m. in the 9700 block of Old Concord Road.

Police say the driver of a 2003 Infiniti struck and killed 18-year-old Miquase Corey Maddox. Maddox was riding his bicycle in the roadway against traffic when he was struck. Medic pronounced him dead on scene upon their arrival. Police say Maddox was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Both the driver and passenger of the Infiniti were wearing seatbelts and were not impaired. It is unknown at this time if the Infiniti was speeding, but police are investigating to determine that.
