Suspect in custody following standoff in Gastonia neighborhood

News

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — A suspect is now in custody after a standoff with police.

Police were called to the scene on Marcela Drive Wednesday afternoon. FOX 46 was told the man rammed at least one vehicle, fired a shot and then barricaded himself inside his home.

Negotiators were able to talk with him and he is now at the Gaston County Jail. Officers say at one point, neighbors were hiding behind trees because of the shot fired.

“As we were coming to the scene, apparently neighbors were hiding behind trees because of the shot fired out here in the community and of course that elevated our response— just the fact that there was a weapon involved and a shot fired prior to our arrival,” the Gastonia Police captain said.

No injuries were reported. FOX 46 is working to learn what charges the suspect will face.
