Suspect arrested in murder of 20-year-old Charlotte man

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A man has been arrested in connection to a murder. 

Jaime Joel Melendez Suarez, 18, has been arrested for the murder of Jacob Hernandez. Hernandez’s body was found in the 100 block of Rhyne Station Rd. on Friday, April 6. He had been reported missing by his family on April 5.

CMPD detectives say they had suspected foul play in Hernandez’s disappearance based on information gathered during the initial missing person investigation.

Melendez Suarez was thought to be a suspect in the murder. Police obtained a warrant charging Suarez with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury Friday evening. After Hernandez’s body was found, the charges against Suarez were upgraded to murder.

On Tuesday, officers found Melendez Suarez and served the outstanding murder warrant for his arrest. He has been transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Police say Melendez Suarez shot Hernandez in the 4200 block of South Blvd. and later dumped his body at Rhyne Station Rd.
