Study: The top 10 best four-year schools in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been ranked the No. 1 best four-year college in North Carolina after being thoroughly evaluated against 13 different criteria by Schools.com.

UNC-Chapel Hill took the No. 1 spot for both its freshman retention rate and its graduation rate. Its proportion of non-repay financial aid awarded to students ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 5 out of the 1,600­+ schools surveyed nationwide.

Based on the study, below are the top 4-year schools in North Carolina:

1. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

2. North Carolina State University

3. Appalachian State University

4. University of North Carolina at Charlotte

5. East Carolina University

6. Elizabeth City State University

7. University of North Carolina at Greensboro

8. Fayetteville State University

9. Piedmont International University

10. University of North Carolina Wilmington

How did schools.com come up with these rankings?

By using data from the National Center for Education Statistics to evaluate schools on criteria that is important to students. Factors include cost of in-state tuition and fees for full-time undergraduates, number of degrees and certificate programs offered.
