Student taken to hospital after exposure to anti-freeze on Cabarrus County school bus

CABARRUS CO., NC (WJZY) — A student had to be taken to the hospital after being exposed to anti-freeze on board a school bus, according to Cabarrus County school officials.

Emergency personnel were called about 8:50 a.m. Friday about a medical emergency on a school bus headed for CC Griffin Middle School with 22 students on board.

According to Dr. Chris Lowder, superintendent for Cabarrus County Schools, a child on the bus started feeling nauseous due to a reaction to anti-freeze.

It’s unclear how the student got in contact with the chemical.

No other reactions were reported.

The middle-schooler was taken by EMS to a local hospital for observations as a precaution, Lowder said.

The 21 other students arrived safely at school about 9:50 a.m.
