Storm sweeps through area: Trees down, home damaged

MECKLENBURG/GASTON COUNTIES (FOX 46) — Sunday’s storm was widespread.

In Gaston County, many drivers used their emergency lights as they approached Exit 26 on Interstate-85 for Belmont in Gaston County. Some even pulled over to escape the rain, hail and winds.

In east Charlotte, part of a home near the Plaza-Midwood area is ruined after a tree came tumbling down on it while a family was at church.

“Me and my husband could’ve been there,” the victim said. “I was just praising God because we wasn’t in there when it happened.”

In Cornelius, streets were lined with fallen trees and limbs.

FOX 46 Charlotte hasn’t heard of any reported injuries.
