Source: Body of missing Charlotte woman recovered from Lake Wylie

A source tells FOX 46 Charlotte that the body of Vatsla Watkins was recovered from Lake Wylie Sunday evening.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a boater called 911 reporting that a body was floating in Lake Wylie at the Buster Boyd Bridge at 5:45 p.m. The cause of death remains under investigation.



Police were asking for the public’s help in locating a missing woman who was last seen by family in March. 

Her vehicle was found on Friday, March 22 at Pier 49 LLC at Lake Wylie, police confirm to FOX 46. 

CMPD said Vatsla Watkins, 39, drove away from her home around 1:10 p.m. on Monday, March 18 and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. She was last seen driving her silver 2004 Mercedes-Benz C230 with a Carolina Panthers NC tag 8215CP before she disappeared. 

Watkins is 5 feet four inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing blue jeans and a black lightweight jacket. 

FOX 46 confirmed Vatsla Watkins is the wife of former Mecklenburg County GOP Chairman Curtis Watkins. 

Anyone who has seen or has information on Watkins’ whereabouts is asked to call 911, Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Detective Tuttle, the lead detective on the case, at 704-336-8340.
