SALISBURY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman’s grandson in connection to her murder Tuesday night.
Deputies say 25-year-old Joshua Clark has been charged with first degree murder in the case of 62-year-old Melanie Clark.
Shortly after midnight on Monday, March 26 the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was called to 345 Dulin Ave. in Salisbury to a reported death investigation.
The family Melanie Clark, had gone to her home after she hadn’t shown up for church Sunday morning and no one was able to contact.
The family entered the house through an unlocked door, and discovered Melanie’s body. Deputies and first responders arrived on the scene a short time later and confirmed that she had died, deeming her death suspicious.
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, ruled Melanie’s death a criminal homicide and launched a murder investigation.
Over the course of the investigation detectives developed the victim’s grandson, Joshua, as a suspect.
On March 27, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the at 225 Happy Lake Rd. where Joshua lived for evidence of the homicide.
As a result of this investigation, Joshua was arrested and charged with first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
He was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
This investigation is ongoing. No further details will be released at this time.
