Sheriff: New drug “moon rocks” found in home in Catawba County

CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A drug new to Catawba County, “moon rocks,” was found inside a home in Sherrills Ford, according to the Catawba County Sheriff Office. He says “moon rocks” are cannabis buds dipped in hash oil and sprinkled with kief, marijuana shake and marijuana wax.

“We call them the party house they usually always have cars and parties coming in anytime of the day, anytime of the night.”

Robert Setzer says the house at 7011 Navajo Trail in Sherills Ford across the street from where he lives is known for parties and marijuana.

“You can smell it real strong during the night. They definitely smoke a lot” Setzer said.

But what deputies say they found in the home is unlike anything they’ve seen in Catawba County before.

Sheriff Coy Reid says deputies seized moon rocks, cannabis buds dipped in hash oil, from the home.

“It’s real potent. There’s more THC in it. They stay high longer when they smoke this,” said Sheriff Reid.

“It’s more popular out west in California and then it’s come this way,” Reid added.

The sheriff says deputies were originally called out to the home for a domestic disturbance, but when they got to the home, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana, so they called in the drug team.

“That’s crazy to have it over here, especially to have it next door in Catawba County,” Setzer said.

The sheriff says the moon rocks they seized from the home have a street value of $700 to $800. He says they also found guns, more than $2,000 cash, two pounds of marijuana, half a pound of marijuana wax and acid in the house.

“Definitely don’t want it going out especially to high schoolers. There’s plenty of schools around here,” Setzer said.

No arrests have been made, but the sheriff says they’re expected soon.
