Sheriff: Man accused of sexually abusing Rowan County child arrested

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who they say sexually assaulted a child under the age of 15 several times. 

James Wesley Barnes, 37, of Rockwell was wanted for statutory rape, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, indecent liberties with a minor, second-degree kidnapping, and statutory sex offense.

Deputies first attempted to locate and arrest Barnes but were unsuccessful. Investigators obtained information that Barnes was at a house in China Grove, near a Food Lion, and were able to apprehend him.

Barnes had been added to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Most Wanted List.
