Shelby Police investigating after K-9 reportedly bit child


SHELBY, NC (FOX 64 WJZY) — The Shelby Police Department is investigating after a K-9 reportedly bit a child on Friday.

According to witnesses, around 3:15 p.m. Shelby Police were trying to serve a warrant on an individual when he broke into a random house at the corner of Linberger St. and Buffalo St.

Police were waiting for backup and a K9 unit as they surrounded the house when the suspect jumped out a side window and ran. Police and the dog pursued.

The suspect jumped on the hood of a car stopped at a light and kicked at the dog. Police grabbed the suspect and pushed him down breaking the car’s windshield.

At the same time a door on the car was opened and a young girl, 4 or 5 years old, was said to be attacked by the police dog and dragged around the car.
