Schools face closures, delays after storms roll through

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — Multiple schools have announced that they will be closed or delayed on Tuesday due to damage or hazardous conditions created during Monday’s storms. 

Catawba County Schools, Watauga County Schools and Hickory Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Oct. 24.

Catawba County Schools announced on Tuesday due to hazardous conditions from Monday’s storms, the St. Stephens Feeder Area schools will be closed Tuesday, October 24. This includes:

  • Arndt Middle School
  • Clyde Campbell Elementary
  • St. Stephens Elementary School
  • St. Stephens High School
  • Snow Creek Elementary School
  • Webb A Murray Elementary School

Catawba County Schools said certified staff will be on an Optional Teacher Workday. 

Cleveland County Schools and Alexander County Schools have announced that they will be closed. 

In Caldwell County, five schools are closed. They include South Caldwell High School, Dudley Shoals Elementary, Granite Falls Elementary, Granite Falls Middle and Gateway School. All other Caldwell County schools are operating on a two-hour delay. 

Hickory Public Schools announced on Tuesday they are closed due to widespread power outages. They said it is an optional workday for teachers. Jenkins, HCAM, Hickory High and Longview are without power.
