SBI: Man dies while being arrested by Wadesboro Probation Officer


ANSON COUNTY, NC (FOX 46) — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is continuing to investigate after man died during an arrest by a Wadesboro Probation Officer, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

On Thursday, October 22, around 11:00 p.m. the police department requested NCSBI to conduct a use of force criminal investigation involving a probation and parole officer, identified as William Kyle Torrence, 23, and Darryl Perry in Wadesboro.

Torrence was attempting to locate and arrest Perry on a probation violation related to an assault on a woman charge in Anson County, according to the NCSBI.

The NCSBI said Perry was found at his girlfriend’s residence. He ran from the residence and was found within minutes in a wooded area behind the residence.

Torrence was able to handcuff Perry when it appeared Perry sustained an injury to his leg, according to the NCSBI. Medic was called to the scene and rendered aid to Perry who was talking at that time.

The NCSBI said Perry suddenly became unresponsive and passed away.

There was no indication a gun or taser was used. The NCSBI is awaiting the autopsy and toxicology results for Perry.

The NCSBI said several Wadesboro Police Officers were on scene and witnessed the incident after the arrest.

Torrence has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation of the incident. This is standard procedure.
