Rock Hill church won’t let fire take faith; will still hold Sunday service

ROCK HILL, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) — The main building at Gospel Light Baptist is burned, but the congregation is not broken.

Church members will hold Sunday service as usual, and will host it in another building on the church property.

“We will get through this,” Senior Pastor, Bruce Wyatt said. “This is a building, this isn’t the church, the church is the body of Christ, the people.”

Wyatt told FOX 46 Charlotte that nearby churches and community members have been reaching out to show their support and to  ask what church members need.

Wyatt said members of the congregation will get together to form a game plan on how to bounce back and to identify the type of support they’ll need moving forward.

The community’s concern comes after an early morning fire on Thursday that damaged the sanctuary. It took firefighters 45 minutes to stop the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
