Prostitution leads to a shooting and arrests in Rowan County

Deputies arrested two people and issued a warrant for another person in connection to prostitution and a shooting in Rowan County.

The incident took place at a Farm House Road residence in Salisbury.

Robert Chad Christie, 42, who also goes by “Kelly,” was shot in the leg after a disagreement occurred. 

Michael Paul Smith found Christie through an advertisement on “Backpage” and made arrangements to drive from Charlotte to meet for a sexual encounter.

A disagreement occurred shortly after the meeting and Smith pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds at Christie, striking him in the leg according to deputies.

Warrants were obtained for Smith for felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, solicitation of prostitution and felony discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling. Deputies are expecting to arrest Smith this week.

Heather Fitzgerald, 28, was arrested and charged for providing Christie the home on Farm House Road.

Christie was arrested and charged with prostitution.
