Police: Woman sexually assaulted in University City area parking garage

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A woman in her 40s was sexually assaulted in a University City area parking garage Sunday afternoon and now CMPD said they’re looking into whether the culprit is the same person who attacked another woman earlier in the day.

The assault happened around 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4 in the parking garage of the University Crossing Apartment Complex located in the 8900 block of University City Blvd.

Police said the unknown suspect approached the woman and sexually assaulted her by grabbing her buttocks and breasts. The man then fled the scene.

The suspect has been described as a black male, around 20-years-old, approximately 5’9″ tall, with a thin build and medium complexion.

CMPD said they are aware of a similar incident reported to the UNCC Campus Police Department which also occurred on Sunday. In that case, a woman in her 20s was attacked in the same manner.

This incident took place at 1511 Darryl McCall Circle around 8 a.m. Sunday and involved a suspect who had a similar description.

“Our Detectives will be working closely with those of the UNCC Campus Police to determine if the same individual is the suspect in both of these cases and apprehend him,” CMPD said in a written statement.

CMPD University City Division officers will be increasing their patrols in the apartment complexes.
