Police search for suspect in east Charlotte murder, identify victim

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are asking for help identifying a man who is wanted in connection to a Monday night east Charlotte murder. 

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid 20s, 5′ 8″ tall, with a medium build and a medium skin complexion. He was last seen wearing a dark gray crew neck shirt, jeans and tennis shoes. 

Around 11:15 p.m. Monday night, police responded to a call in the 3100 block of Amity Ct. where one person had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Preston Scott Coffey, 44, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. He was killed inside of his own business. 

CMPD attempted to track the suspect Monday night, but were unable to do so.
