Police: Motorcyclist killed in wreck involving tractor-trailer in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — A motorcyclist was killed in a wreck involving a tractor-trailer in Gastonia Thursday morning.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Robert Lee Cole, 30, of Gastonia, police said. 

The multi-vehicle crash occurred around 9:17 a.m. at 2302 South New Hope Road at Redbud Drive. 

Gaston County EMS tells FOX 46 Charlotte that the motorcyclist died at the scene. 

Police said Cole was traveling on South New Hope Road when he crashed into a 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer owned by Ameri Green Recycling LLC of Stanley. The truck driver, Stephen Norman, of Mt. Holly, was leaving the Walmart Neighborhood Market and attempting a left turn onto South New Hope Road when the crash occurred. 

Cole was killed on impact, police said. 

Gastonia Police are investigating and no charges will be filed at this time.
