Police: Man shot, killed in north Charlotte home

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after a man was shot and killed while watching television inside his home early Wednesday morning. 

Officers said around 3:24 a.m.. Wednesday, October 19, they were called out to the 5400 block of Datha Avenue in regards to an assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon arrival, they discovered Ralph Johnson, 48, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. 

Johnson was pronounced dead on scene by Medic. Police said the investigation shows shots were fired into the home through the front door and the suspect forced entry into the house.

Three other people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, police said. 

This is an ongoing, active investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective.
