CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) — A man was sent to the hospital after police shot him during a foot chase in east Charlotte, according to authorities.
A caller notified the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department of a man armed with a handgun walking around the 6700 block of Albemarle Road around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
When CMPD officers arrived, they found 30-year-old Robert Morrow III who matched the caller’s description of the suspect. Morrow immediately fled on foot as police attempted to stop him.
Police then chased after him and noticed that he was armed with a handgun. Police say Officer Jeremiah Dossett felt threatened and shot Morrow. Morrow was sent by Medic to CMC and is currently being treated for his injuries.
Once he is released from the hospital, Morrow will be transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail. He will be charged with assault on a female, assault by pointing a gun, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, trafficking cocaine and resist, obstruct and delay.
Morrow also will be served with four outstanding orders for his arrest from Mecklenburg, Gaston and Union Counties stemming from previous cases.
No officers were injured during the chase. Dossett will be placed on administrative leave as part of CMPD’s officer-involved shooting procedure.
The investigation is still ongoing.
