LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A heated argument took a turn for the worse when a Stanley man fired a shot from his 12-gauge shotgun through the family’s front door where a small child was laying nearby, police said.

Deputies were called to a home around 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 in the 5800 block of Aster Lane in Stanley for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office discovered the owner of the property, Johnny Lee Finandis, 69, had fired a shot from his shotgun through the front door of the house. Just inside the door was a small child laying on an inflatable mattress. Luckily, no one was struck by the pellets, deputies said.

Deputies discovered the incident started when Finandis’s wife, Felicia, and her son got into an argument because “his girlfriend was laughing at something they were watching on television.”

Ms. Finandis came out of a nearby bedroom and the two women got into a fight. Ms. Finandis’ son stepped between the two women and Ms. Finandis began swinging a knife she was holding. The knife struck the son causing an injury to his finger, deputies said.

Johnny Finandis then came into the home and the argument continued before he and his wife went outside. While they were gone those still inside the home locked the door. That is when Finandis returned with the shotgun and shot through the front door, deputies said.

Both Johnny Finandis and Felicia Finandis were transported to the Lincoln County magistrate’s office where they were charged. Johnny Finandis is charged with one felony count each of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm into occupied property. He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center without bond.

Felicia Finandis is charged with one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury. She is being held in jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
