Police: Man arrested for forcible rape in Belmont

BELMONT, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — The Belmont Police Department has arrested a man after he reportedly sexually assaulted a woman last month. 

On March 20, 2018 a Belmont woman reported being sexually assaulted to police. A thorough investigation into the allegations was conducted and police said they were able to obtain charges in this case. 

Richard David Howell was arrested and charged with second-degree forcible rape, as well as breaking and entering to terrorize and injure on March 30, 2018. 

Police said this case is an isolated, domestic incident and not a random act. Howell is currently being held at the Gaston County Jail.
