A man was killed in an overnight wreck in north Charlotte, police said. The man has been identified as Andrew James Durgan, III, 48.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 2:23 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 in the 4700 block of Gibbon Road.

Upon arrival, CMPD officers found a 2006 Chevrolet van which had run off the roadway and struck a tree. Medic arrived on scene and pronounced the driver, Durgan, dead on scene.

The Major Crash Investigaiton Unit discovered the vehicle was traveling on Gibbon Road towards Old Statesville Road when it veered left of center, ran off the road and struck a tree. Speed and alcohol impairment do not appear to be contributing factors.

The driver, Durgan, was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Gibbon Road was shut down near Old Statesville Road and Garvin Drive early Friday morning.

This crash remains under investigation.
