CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A roadway was shut down early Tuesday morning in west Charlotte after a distracted driver went off the street and crashed into a utility pole, knocking power lines down.
The wreck occurred at 4:42 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Alleghany Street between Ashley Road and Harding High School. The road was closed in both directions due the accident.
Police said the driver dropped his phone on the floor of his car and crashed when he looked down to pick it up. No injuries were reported in the wreck.
Drivers were asked to use Wilkinson Blvd as an alternate route Tuesday morning. Harding High School is expected to operate as normal.
Crews on scene told FOX 46 Charlotte the area was expected to reopen around 9 a.m. Tuesday. The road will remained closed until AT&T crews come to repair telephone lines that are still down.
