PAGELAND, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — A Pageland man died overnight from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a domestic disturbance at a local home, according to the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division.

Deputies with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home along W. Turner Street in Pageland at 12:19 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. following a hang up 911 call.

As deputies arrived on scene they heard a woman screaming from inside the home. Deputies were able to make contact with the woman at the front door when several shots were fired within the home. Deputies were able to get the woman and two children out of the house at that time.

SLED confirms to FOX 46 Charlotte that they assisted Pageland authorities early Thursday morning on the call. Witnesses said deputies on scene tried to communicate with the man inside the home, calling out his name several times.

Authorities said the man, identified as Markee Donta Crawford, showed up at the home overnight and engaged in a domestic confrontation with the woman.

After calling out the man’s name several times, deputies entered the home and found Crawford in the rear room of the house dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

SLED Crime Scene investigators are continuing to investigate this case. A forensic investigation will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 4. This case remains active.
