STATESVILLE, NC (FOX 46) — Tuesday’s the first day of spring, but it sure doesn’t feel like it.
Snow is expected in the area Wednesday morning and crews in Iredell, Catawba and Watauga counties are on standby to react to it.
NCDOT Iredell County Maintenance Engineer, Matthew Evans, is prepared.
“It’s a typical March in North Carolina,” he jokingly said.
Evans is expecting a snow and rain mixture to arrive in Iredell County around 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. in the morning. The state trucks on his lot have been prepped—workers have already assembled the plows and salt spreaders.
Iredell County did not pre-treat the roads with their brine solution because of scheduled rain that would wash away the substance before the snow mixture started.
State workers in Iredell County will run a 24-hour operation starting midnight on Wednesday until the event is over. Workers will work 12-hour shifts.
“We treat every snow event the same, we get ready, and we want to be as proactive as we can,” Evans said.
