CMPD has charged a man with attempted first degree murder after a home invasion and shooting of a young mother.

Reco Dawkins Jr. is charged with attempted first degree murder, felony breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering.

On Tuesday a judge set his bond at $1 million.

Semantha Bunce was shot and injured during a home invasion and continues to improve in the hospital, according to a friend’s update on a GoFundMe page. CMPD says the suspect in the case turned himself in.

Bunce was seriously injured after being shot during a home invasion Tuesday, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Her infant child was home at the time and was not injured in the shooting.

The 21-year-old mother lives on the 6400 block of Matlea Court. Bunce recently moved into the home with her husband and infant child.

The suspects kicked in the front door shortly before 10 a.m., police said. After shooting Bunce, the suspects ran away.

Next door neighbor John Marshall says he feared for his life when one of the bullets fired came through his bedroom wall.

“Scared. I was so scared,” Marshall said.

CMPD does not believe Dawkins and Bunce know each other. Neighbors are now asking for more patrolling, saying they feel unsafe. CMPD says they will increase police presence to make people feel safe for the time being.

Bunce’s friend, Hollie Ritchie, wrote online that Bunce is a member of the National Guard.
