About 12 to 13 vehicles caught fire Wednesday morning at an auto repair shop in Pineville, fire officials said. The cause of the large blaze remains under investigation.
As smoke rose from the parking lot at Dellinger Wrecker Services early Wednesday, more than a dozen cars burned to the ground. The fire started around 6 a.m. on Industrial Drive.
The fire was so fierce, that the Pineville Fire Department brought in tankers to put out the flames.
The shop’s owner told FOX 46 Charlotte some of the vehicles in the lot were brought in by police after wrecks and investigations. They said the fire would have captured been on surveillance, but lightning took out their camera that was pointed in the direction of the fire.
The owner said he’s hoping another camera will show how the 12 to 13 cars went up in flames. Dellinger Wrecker Services has been open for 25 years and this is the second fire that has happened in their parking lot.
The owner told FOX 46 Charlotte he doesn’t believe the fire was intentionally set, but a faulty wire in a wreck vehicle that parked and caught wind. The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
