Man undergoes surgery after being shot in Statesville


STATESVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A man underwent surgery early Wednesday morning after he was shot just after midnight in Statesville, police said. 

At around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24 dispatch received a 911 call from Zarrie James who said he had been shot and needed help. 

Iredell ECOM was able to pinoiint his location through his cell phone to Garner Bagnal Blvd. near Wilson Lee Blvd. James was transported to Baptist Hospital where he underwent surgery for his wounds. 

At this time, a crime scene has not been established but officers canvassed the area around where James first called 911, according to the Statesville Police Department.

As of 5:00 a.m., Violent Crime Collaborative Investigators have been contacted and have begun to process evidence found with James. There is no indication that James was randomly shot while driving, so the public should not be concerned for their safety while they drive to work or school today, police said.
