Man steals running car with toddler inside, police say

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A man is in custody after police say he stole a woman’s car Thursday night with her 2-year-old son inside.

D’Jerry Cassamajor is facing several charges, including larceny of a motor vehicle, abduction of a child, and first degree kidnapping.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Cassamajor stole the woman’s Hyundai Santa Fe after she left it running and walked into the Super Wok, located on West Sugar Creek Road.

The woman called 911 and notified friends about what had happened. Police say the woman’s friends spotted Cassamajor walking away from the car and found that he had left the boy outside of the car in the snow. They chased him down and held him until officers arrived and took him into custody.

Thankfully the 2-year-old was not injured.

The Department of Social services has been notified due to the fact that the child was left in the car unattended.
