Man shot and killed by deputy in York County identified

A York County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a man early Friday morning after responding to a civil disturbance call in York, South Carolina. A number of area roads were temporarily closed. 

The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Trent Fondren. The officer-involved shooting happened shortly after 4 a.m. Friday, December 1 at 753 East Old Limestone Road. 

No word on what led up to the deadly shooting. The York County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy involved was not hurt or transported to the hospital. 

E. Old Limestone Road at Branch Road, E. Old Limestone at Shiloh Road and E. Old Limestone Rd at Wood Road were blocked Friday morning to traffic. 

As in any officer-involved shooting, police said the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called in to investigate.
