Man dies in hospital following shooting in Matthews, police say


MATTHEWS, NC (FOX 46) — A man was pronounced dead at the hospital Wednesday night following a shooting in Matthews, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. 

The incident happened at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 in the 2500 block of Cross Point Circle. 

Upon arrival, officers located Thomas McDonald suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later by medical staff. 

Detectives were canvassing the area Wednesday night to determine if there were any witnesses to the shooting. Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect evidence. 

This is an ongoing, active investigation.
