Man charged after passenger dies in north Charlotte crash

A man has died after he was involved in a crash that took place at the intersection of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road and Mt. Holly Road in north Charlotte on Thursday, Oct. 20, police say. 

Michael Brown, 30, was driving a Dodge Ram pick-up truck in the southbound lane when he struck the right side of a 1994 Mercedes-Benz with three people inside. The Mercedes was headed straight through the intersection of Mt. Holly Road at the time of the crash. 

The front right passenger in the Mercedes, 30-year-old Jonathan Dutton, was transported to CMC-Main with life threatening injuries. He later died at the hospital. 

The other two passengers in the Mercedes sustained minor injuries. 

Brown has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. The investigation showed that Brown ran a red light when he entered the intersection of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd. and Mt. Holly Rd. when the vehicle he was driving hit Dutton’s vehicle.
