Man arrested in University area shooting that seriously injured woman

CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A man has been arrested in connection to a University area shooting that seriously injured one woman, police said. 

Curtis Garyray Kerr, 35, has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, breaking and entering and damage to property.

Police said around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, a 23-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after she was shot inside her home in the Wexford Apartment complex located at 1900 Wexford Meadows Lane just off University Boulevard.

CMPD told FOX 46 Charlotte the woman was shot multiple times, including in the chest. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in serious condition, but survived. A 6-month-old child was also in the apartment, but was not hurt.

The victim did not know Kerr. Reports indicate that he came to the apartment looking for another individual and shot her without reason. 

No other information has been released at this time.
