Man arrested for third DWI after crash caused 3 children to be ejected

A man has been arrested for his third DWI following a serious crash that caused three children to be ejected from a van in south Charlotte on Thursday. 

Three strikes and Carl Wells mugshot is out. Its his third DWI arrest for the 24-year-old in a little over a year. Police said Wells is the driver responsible for a brutal crash on South Blvd. that sent five people to the hospital, three of them children. 

One of the children, a little girl, was seriously hurt in the wreck and underwent surgery Thursday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Wells admitted to drinking and driving the morning after Fourth of July. With debris scattered across the road, several lanes on South Blvd. were shut down near Arrowwood Drive and the light rail station in south Charlotte. 

Police said just before 5:30 a.m., a family van was trying to turn into public’s storage building on South Blvd. Four people were hurt in the family car, while the passenger in Wells’ car was also sent to the hospital.
