Man arrested after dispute over money turns into shootout


CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a local man after a dispute over money lead to a shootout. 

The incident occurred at 4:05 p.m. Friday, November 11 in the 4000 block of Avalon Avenue. 

CMPD said officers were in the area Friday on an unrelated incident when they heard shots fired nearby. They immediately responded and located the victim, Ray Lewis. 

Upon investigation, police determined that Lewis was having a dispute over money with the suspect, Frank Livingston.

Police said Livingston was demanding money that he was owed which would normally this would be a civil dispute, but when they did not agree on the amount owed, Livingston shot at him using a handgun. 

Lewis then returned fire using his own handgun; fortunately neither party was injured. 

CMPD said they were able to locate Livingston as well as the handgun he used. He was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as shooting in the city limits.
