Lost dog reunited with owners after 9 months

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — A family dog that jumped out of a moving car was missing for nine months, but the owners never gave up hope. After searching all across the area, the family shared the happy reunion with FOX 46 Charlotte.

“He’s a big part of our family. They are all like our children,” said Vanessa Arnet who loves her three dogs like family. That’s why when Rocky went missing, so did a piece of her heart.

Last June, after a trip to the vet, two-year-old Rocky was on anesthesia and riding in the front seat of the car.

“He hit the window, let it down, and he jumped out,” said Arnet. Her husband saw Rocky run down Reames Road in north Charlotte.

She did not want to go home without Rocky, but she never gave up hope. The family posted his picture all over social media and posted flyers from Concord to Rock Hill, offering a $500 reward.

For nine months she worried if someone had him, how he survived, or if he came in contact with a coyote. Then a special phone call came in.

“They said, ‘I think we may have found your dog.’”

A family who lives four miles from where the dog was lost, found Rocky. They fed him and tried to bring him inside, until a rainy night when he finally came inside their home. They saw Arnet’s posts on social media and once they sent her a picture of the dog, Arnet had no doubt in her mind.

“What caught my eye was the markings on his chest and I knew right away that was Rocky.”

After the family confirmed Rocky’s owners were the Arnet’s thanks to a chip and help from PetSmart, the long-waited reunion finally happened.

“I said,’ Rocky! It’s momma!’ And he was whining and couldn’t take his head off my chest.”

Now Vanessa feels nothing but gratitude to the family who made hers whole again.

“He’s just a great dog and he fought his way home.”
