Lane closures on I-77 in Rock HIll won’t slow everyone

ROCK HILL, SC (FOX 46) — Lane closures will begin on I-77 in Rock Hill starting Friday morning. The northbound ramp at the Home Depot and three lanes on the Catawba River Bridge will be closed due to bridge deck repairs.

Some in the area, like Vicky Fite, aren’t looking forward to the road work.

“Anytime they slow down on the Interstate it slows everything down, especially the exit and they just line up and front of the my house,” said Fite.

Fite lives on an already busy Sutton Road. Her house is just one exit north of where the lane closures will be.

For others, the added traffic and congestion is welcomed.

“In a way it’s a good thing for me,” said Margaret Barber owner of The Belle Crane Inn.

Barber is Fite’s next door neighbor and feels the extra eyes on her property is a bonus.

“Things slow up at the front of my home, but because I do have a business behind my home it gives people an opportunity to see the sign,” Barber said.

SCDOT is expecting construction to last through Monday morning.
