Lancaster man arrested after purchasing Chevrolet Tahoe with “worthless” check

LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) — A Lancaster, South Carolina man has been arrested in connection with using a forged check to purchase a vehicle, deputies said.

On Monday, Jan. 8 a report was filed with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office that Bobby Shane Adams, 36, purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe from Bradford’s Automotive at 6900 East Highway 150 in Maiden.

The company was notified by their bank on that day that the check Adams used to purchase the vehicle was “worthless.” Detectives investigated the case and determined the account referenced on the check did not exist.

On Tuesday, January 9 detectives contacted the Lancaster County, SC Sheriff’s Office who agreed to check Adams address for the vehicle.

The next day warrants were obtained on Adams for one felony count each of obtaining property by false pretense, uttering a forged instrument and possession of a counterfeit instrument. On the same day Lancaster County, SC Sheriff’s detectives located the vehicle and arranged for it to be recovered.

Adams was arrested later and waived extradition to North Carolina. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and ordered held in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center. He was released after posting a $15,000 secured bond.
