Crossing Guard Jerome Sutton knows how to turn a sidewalk into a party.

“He’s like sunshine,” one Indian Trail resident said.

Jerome seems to know everyone at Sun Valley Middle School. It’s where students said there’s no other cross guard quite like him.

“Well, he’ll point at you like this.”

Salutes, points and even Dabs are an every day routine for Jerome who crosses kids to safety – and keeps drivers in line as well!

“Good afternoon traffic man, the best in town!”

Jerome has been directing walkers and drivers at Sun Valley Middle School for 22 years. They said they appreciate him so much – he’s being given the ‘key to the town’ in Indian Trail.

Parents said Jerome knows how to brighten everyone’s day.

“Smiling and the way he points, even if I haven’t had coffee in the morning, he makes my day”

It’s not just about the high fives – residents said Jerome is like family. They’re glad he’s the one who shows them the way.
