Homes, businesses in Chesterfield Co. without power for several days

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, SC (FOX 46) — Homes and businesses in Chesterfield County have been without power for several days. For some, the frustration is starting to build.

Downed trees and snapped power poles have Duke Energy customers still living in the dark.

“I haven’t seen Duke Energy at all and the unique thing about it is, in my particular neighborhood, half off the street is on Lynches River, which is a local power company and the other half is Duke power and is still out,” Frederick Allen said, resident.

Frederick Allen lives in Chesterfield. He said his neighbors across the street are relying on gas-powered generators. But with gas running low throughout the count, it’s only a matter of time before their options run out.

“Most of them are a little upset. Directly across the street is my elderly aunt and she’s been with me the last couple of days because you know her lights are still out,” Allen explained.

In the meantime, downed power lines are also leading to road closures.

“Just different stories about they sent their crews to Florida and they’re not here helping and things like that,” Patricia Covington said, resident.

A Duke Energy representative told FOX 46 Charlotte they are there helping and working around the clock to restore power to the thousands still without in Chesterfield and Marlboro counties. But, unfortunately, it could be another three to five days.
