Homeowner will not face charges in deadly Mineral Springs shooting


UNION COUNTY, NC (WJZY) — No charges are being filed against a Mineral Springs homeowner in the fatal shooting of a burglary suspect, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly before 3:50 am Monday morning, a man shot 17-year-old Marquies Rason Waters, who allegedly broke into the man’s home minutes earlier and was possibly returning to retrieve items left behind, according to Union County deputies.

The shooting happened at a residence on Happy Hollow Lane just off of Western Union School Road. 

The Union County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Union County District Attorney’s Office, after consideration of the facts and review of applicable law in this case, concluded that the homeowner did not violate state law.

On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies arrested two suspects, Jacob Alexander Maye and Tristen Malyk Deese, for Burglary and Felony Conspiracy for their alleged involvement in the incident.
